"America's PrepareAthon" is FEMA's initiative to provide "an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and communities to prepare for specific hazards through drills, group discussions, and exercises." As you know, Coastal Virginia is prone to many types of natural disasters! Let's make Coastal Virginia an example to the rest of America by coming together as a community and pledging to prepare for hurricanes and other natural disasters.
Admission to the event is FREE and is open to the general public. The PrepareAthon party will feature community VIPs and local media, over 30 preparedness organizations in the vendor hall, fun interactive games for people of all ages, D&B's arcade, prizes and more! I will be promoting this event live on The Weather Channel in Atlanta on May 29th!
Please join us and help Coastal Virginia officially kick off the 2014 hurricane season!

What's best for you is also best for your pet. Never leave pets outdoors during a natural disaster and never leave your pet behind if you evacuate. Make a plan for your pet today.
1. Ask a trusted neighbor to check on your pets if something happens while you're not home. Identify nearby shelters (remember, not all shelters accept pets), local boarding facilities and animal hospitals. Check out a list of pet-friendly hotels at www.PetsWelcome.com
2. Get your pet microchipped and keep your address and phone number up-to-date (also include an out-of-town contact's information). If you are ever separated, this is the easiest way to reunite your pet with you.
3. Take a pet first aid and CPR class. Every second counts. I recommend www.PetTech.net
