Illness Redemption World Trip: Stop #2 - SINGAPORE

Updated: Mar 12, 2023

Hello to this beautiful cosmopolitan city full of greenery! Let me start by saying that Gardens By the Bay lived up to the hype - my favorite place in the city. The art makes you feel like you’re in another world. 🌳

Singapore's coordinates are 1.3521° N, 103.8198° E, so being this close to the equator, the weather is warm and tropical. When you're looking for a place to stay when you visit, the Westin Singapore gets my recommendation! It's in a great location, not far from Gardens By the Bay and is close to the subway.

Singapore is a foodie’s haven with so many cuisines to choose from.

We found the delicious vegan gluten-free restaurant, Cultivate Cafe. It was in a charming library setting with mouth-watering food. So happy! Here's photos of the food I remembered to take photos of! (OMG - the vegan cheese plate and the dessert)!

We also enjoyed dinner at Ce La Vie at the top of the Marina Bay Sand’s Tower 3, but it came with a hefty price tag. 💵 You definitely pay for that amazing view (but even in the rain, it's worth seeing). 🌃

Singapore’s Orchard Road is a shopper’s paradise. This is where the indoor mall is still alive and thriving! You’ll find everything from high-end luxury to affordable. ;) 🛍️

We used both the subway and Grab Car (this part of the world’s “Uber or Lyft”) to get around. People walk and drive on the left in Singapore. The subway was safe and clean but not as easy as Tokyo’s. But I applaud Singapore for installing safety doors and lines indicating where to stand. It's much more civilized than the New York City subway system! However, I'm not a fan of the subway's ATMs...but maybe I’m bias since a subway ATM ate our debit card. 😵‍💫

Some other interesting tidbits we learned from locals:

  • Chewing gum is prohibited

  • You can get sued for pointing at people

  • Walking around naked in your own home is illegal and considered pornography

  • There is no top sheet on the bed. Why do so many countries leave this necessary (to me) piece of bedding off? ;)

Overall, we really enjoyed Singapore... but now it's off to Stop #3!
